Half Moon golf course was designed by world renowned architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and opened in 1962.
The course was later modernised by Roger Rulewich, who removed non-native trees, expanded several greens and renovated bunkers, creating a masterpiece of sheer beauty and game-raising challenges. Routed through a retired sugarcane estate, the course hugs the toe of the slopes of the hills overlooking Half Moon.
It is a bow-tie, classic layout with multiple sets of tees, well-bunkered greens -contoured to accommodate surface drainage, and an overall length ranging from 5,035 to 7,120 yards. A beautiful walking course, this 18-hole par-72 championship course tests scratch and novice golfers alike with similar from appropriate distances.
Primary defence of par are the 26 shallow-faced fairway bunkers requiring solidly-struck tee balls to find the short grass. Constant trade winds blowing off the Caribbean Sea create up-wind challenges and down-wind opportunities. Listen to our caddies, they possess a wealth of course knowledge and are eager to lend an eye to guide a birdie putt, or share a story from their years of experience.
Half Moon withstands the test of time, remaining true to its origins in length and intent, permitting golfers to chase par and history between the palms at Half Moon. Just four minutes away from our golf course are the White Witch and Cinnamon Hill golf courses, making Half Moon a golf destination.
Situated on the historic 4,000 acre Rose Hall Estate, and sited on 200 acres of lush greenery and rolling countryside, The White Witch Golf Course is carved from the rolling countryside of Jamaica’s historic Rose Hall Plantation and is an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Robert von Hagge and Rick Baril. This 6,758-yard, Par 71 treasure is named for the plantation’s beautiful but wicked 19th century plantation mistress, Annee Palmer.
Legend has it that Annee’s ghost still haunts the estate, creating an alluring mystique that has fascinated island natives and visitors for generations. Rated as the #1 Golf Course and #1 in Golf Shop Staff service by Conde Nast Traveler, the White Witch is considered one of the finest golf courses in the Caribbean, characterized by mountainous terrain, cool trade winds, colorful foliage and spectacular ocean views from 16 of its 18 holes.
Golf is as much a part of The Tryall Club as the magnificent villas and the ocean views. The course is integral to the Club’s fabric, twisting and winding through the estate as it makes it way down to the coastline. Rated as one of the Caribbean’s finest, our course is both challenging and beautiful with a fascinating heritage.
It didn’t take long for Tryall’s founders to start building a golf course. Just three years after opening the club they employed celebrated course designer Ralph Plummer to create a course that would work with the estate’s unique topography. Plummer’s design cleverly blends the 17th century sugar plantation’s layout with the coastline and the landscape’s natural features.
Today, Tryall offers everything you could want from a 21st century course. Audubon certified since 2010, extensively rebuilt and improved it is now of a higher-quality than ever, complete with modern irrigation systems. Plummer’s original concept remains – the design uses natural hazards unique to the location, such as the trade winds – with the addition of an ocean-side fourth hole to create a new challenges for every golfer.
Anyone can play at Tryall. Whether you’re a complete beginner, a serious amateur or experienced player there’s plenty for you here. The Golf Academy offers expert tuition for everyone, with small classes with plenty of instructors means you’ll get the attention you need to improve your game.
Modern doesn’t have to mean busy. The private nature of the club means that the greens never get crowded, allowing you to play in peace and enjoy the surroundings. Come and experience a world-class course that has challenged and delighted the likes of Nick Faldo and Ernie Els.
